What is hoppy beer?
Hoppy beer is all about the aroma, flavor, and bitterness that hops provide to beer. Depending on the hop varieties used, a beer can taste fresh and citrusy, tropical and juicy, floral, spicy, or even dry and resinous. Therefore, not every hoppy beer is automatically extremely bitter. Modern IPAs often place more emphasis on aroma and fruitiness, while classic West Coast IPAs are known for their clear character and firm bitterness.
At Verdins, you will find hoppy beers from established breweries and innovative craft brewers from all over Europe and beyond. We select both accessible, easy-drinking beers and special releases for enthusiasts who love to discover new hop varieties and breweries.
Which hoppy beer style suits you?
Anyone who wants to get to know hoppy beer can start with a Pale Ale. This style is usually fresh, aromatic, and a bit lighter than an IPA. If you are looking for more hop aroma and bitterness, take a look at our selection of IPA beers.
A New England IPA, often abbreviated as NEIPA, is typically hazy, soft, and distinctly fruity. West Coast IPAs are usually clearer, drier, and more bitter. For more strength, body, and hop intensity, you can choose a Double IPA. These beers generally have a higher alcohol percentage and a very pronounced hop character.
From tropical and juicy to dry and bitter
Hops can provide flavors and aromas reminiscent of grapefruit, lime, mango, peach, pineapple, white grape, flowers, herbs, or pine needles. The final character is determined not only by the hop variety but also by the moment the brewer adds the hops. Hops added during the boil mainly provide bitterness. Late hop additions and dry hopping place more emphasis on scent and aroma.
Use the filters to refine the assortment by brewery, country, beer style, alcohol percentage, or other characteristics. Because hoppy beers are best drunk as fresh as possible, our selection changes regularly.
