During the time of Napoleon, Pauwel Kwak was a brewer and owner of the 'De Hoorn' inn in Dendermonde. Stagecoaches stopped there daily. However, at that time, coachmen were not allowed to leave their coach and horses to quench their thirst with their passengers. Therefore, the resourceful innkeeper had a special Kwak glass blown that could be hung from the carriage. This way, the coachman always had his Kwak beer close at hand.
APPEARANCE:
Kwak is recognizable by its deep, clear amber color and a dense, cream-colored head. The light wood of the glass holder provides a pleasant contrast to the beer.
AROMA:
You can smell a soft, fruity, and malty aroma with a slightly spicy touch (coriander, hops). Additionally, there are earthy and very subtle aromas of banana and perhaps a hint of pineapple or mango in the background.
TASTE:
Discover a very soft, fruity start, a nougat-like firmness, and a slightly spicy character with hints of licorice, transitioning into a warm finish that is reminiscent of caramelized banana. The bitterness remains in the background throughout, but ultimately comes through subtly.
